RESEARCH AND EVIDENCE

Although many patients attest to the effectiveness of acupuncture, and point to the fact that it has been used for several thousand years, there is now a demand for objective evidence. Chinese physicians are constantly carrying out research into the effectiveness of acupuncture, and publish their findings in Chinese Medical Journals.

In the last couple of decades, considerable research has also been carried out in this country, Europe and the United States, and results have been published in a variety of journals, including the British Medical Journal, the European Journal of Oriental Medicine and the Journal of Chinese Medicine

In the UK, in co-operation with the British Acupuncture Council, the Acupuncture Research and Resource Centre (ARRC) has been set up to co-ordinate research projects and encourage research by the acupuncture profession.

More information about ARRC and about research evidence can be found on their website: http://www.acupunctureresearch.org.uk/
